@francis, gear wise, you are good to go. any decent product out there in the market would be a good start and I think you have selected good products. about the connections, take a look at the video link below :

Hi Harish, Thanks for the comments. Your right, its not at all easy to try out so many DAWs out there in the market. But if you can squeeze in lots of bucks, its good to go with the best available and branded in the market.

Let me first say what I've got in my kitty now :
1. MBOX2 PRO (Audio Interface)
2. RODE NT1A (Mic)
3. Samson Resolv A5 (Active Studio Monitors)
4. Yamaha PSR E14 (Its a very ordinary keyboard but I only use it to drive the Virtual Instruments. Actually I'm planning to get a good MIDI controller keyboard).
5. Pro Tools 8 (DAW)

Apart from what I've, the most common gears that people possess are :
1. To name a few, Audio Interface from companies like M-Audio, MOTU, Cakewalk, Presonus, Motu, Lexicon can be looked upon.
2. For Virtual Instruments, I love Reason 4 and lots and lots of Refills :). I've free Reason 4 refills downloads available. Check it out at http://www.homestudiosound.com/category/blog/free-reason-4-refills
3. For keyboard, I would suggest and love to have Korg M50 and the likes from Roland.
4. DAW - Obviously lot of people have their preference but it will be mostly Cakewalk, Ableton, Logic Pro, Sonar, Cubase
5. For Mic, I like RODE a lot on the condensors and the most standard dynamic is Shure SM58 for vocals and SM57 for instruments.

Thanks Srini for taking the effort to educate aspiring musicians who want to setup a home studio.

For the DAW software, it is virtually impossible to install 4-5 of them and go through a big learning curve with each and then decide on which we are most comfortable.

It might be a good idea if u can actually give brand/model nos. of 4-5 items in each category, so that readers have a better base to research on

thanks once again!
