Dr OctoRex

The upgraded Dr. Octo Rex loop player loads eight REX loops into one player and lets you switch between them on the fly. This makes arranging a breeze – load the drum loops into one player, the guitars into another and use the sequencer to select what loop to play in a pattern-like fashion.

With eight loops to switch between, the new loop player also comes ready for the experimental minded. Set the player to retrig the loops on the beat, on the bar or on the 16th note. Or program the loops manually like in the original rex player.

For each of the eight loops, the new rex player also comes with an expanded set of per-slice settings. Set pan, pitch, filter frequency and level, reverse slices, use multiple outputs, create alternating groups of slices and much more.

BLOCKS

Many musicians tend to think of music in terms like intro, verse, chorus, breakdown, buildup and so on. With the new Blocks mode in Reason 5 and Record 1.5, your sequencer does too.

Blocks lets you sequence your songs using a more pattern-based approach, with the segments of your song as individual building blocks to be laid out in your arrangement.

Start by creating the discrete parts of your song in blocks mode. When you are ready to start building your song, just switch back to song mode and draw in what blocks should play in the dedicated pattern lane. Use one block for the verse and one for the chorus — or build your song around a single 8-bar loop.

Blocks provide a very fast way of creating a musical structure for your song. But the options don’t end there. With the basic arrangement laid out, you can see the contents of the blocks and create variations and mute individual parts, or add further musical elements in song mode.

A typical use for Blocks is to create your backing track in blocks and then use the song mode sequencer to record vocals or instrumental performances. For music based around a single looped section, one repeated block with automation and mutes of individual tracks added in song mode makes arranging a breeze.

You never have to commit to using either mode – you are free to move back and forth between Blocks and Song mode, and any changes you make in your Blocks will instantly be manifested in all instances of that Block. Need some tambourine on that chorus? Add it, and there will be tambourine whenever the chorus block is playing.

Neptune Pitch Adjuster

Getting a vocal performance right means so much more than hitting the right notes at the right time. Sometimes you get that almost perfect performance with perfect feel and presence, but the singer might have missed a few notes. That’s when Neptune can save the day. Neptune is an advanced pitch adjuster, audio transposer and voice synth for Record 1.5.

As a pitch adjuster, Neptune will fine tune the pitch of an audio track to help getting your vocal performances just right. Neptune will fix the flat notes with an unbelievable audio quality . You can select a root key and a scale that you want the adjuster to use, or create a scale that fits your song. And, yes. By cranking the pitch adjustment settings to the max, you can get that effect sound too.

Neptune is also a natural sounding audio transposer. This is a great help if you ever needed to change the key of a song that’s already been recorded.

Perhaps the most creative-sparking function in Neptune is the voice synth. Play your MIDI keyboard and Neptune will create new harmonies from your vocal tracks in real time, or use it without the original voice to completely change the melody of the song. Endless creative options!

Live Sampling

Remember the time when samples were something you sampled and not loaded from your hard drive? When a sampler was a machine that could record samples, not just play them back.

As samplers became software instead of machines, they came to rely on external sample editing software for recording and editing the samples and the art of spur-of-the-moment creative sampling was pretty much lost. Now we are bringing it back to Reason 5 with its live sampling input.

All sample players in Reason are now samplers. Just hook up a sound source to the rack’s sampling input and you are ready to start sampling. Use a mic, a turntable, an instrument or the entire Reason mix.

Kong Drum Designer

Analog synthesis, physical modeling, sampling, REX loops, support sound generators, effects, flexible routing, multiple hit types and more. The Kong Drum Designer is not your regular drum module. It’s the drum module focused on letting you get exactly that drum sound you’re after.

Kong has 16 pads and 16 drums. Build your drum sounds based on any of the nine different drum modules. Flavor the sound with 11 support generators and effects. Program automation, create alternating groups and let Reason’s powerful sequencer control the beat.

Reason 5 ships with a sound bank with a generous supply of kits for Kong across a wide variety of styles.

Sampling in Reason is simple and straightforward. Hit the sample button and Reason starts sampling. Reason will detect the sample start automatically. You can sample when Reason is running too if you like – no need to stop the music. If needed, bring up the built-in sample editor to set start and end points, loop points and more. This is possible for all loaded samples by the way – not only the ones you have sampled.
As always, Reason lets you focus on music making – and sampling in this case. All samples are neatly stored in our song file and accessible in the new samples pane in the tool window. Here you can easily see what samples are loaded into what machine and delete and export samples as you wish.
Live sampling together with pitch detection of root key and automatic zone mapping makes it dead easy to sample an instrument and map the samples across the keyboard. This way you’ll create your own multi-sampled instruments for NN-XT and NN-19 in an instant.

Neptune

Dr. Octo Rex

Automatic Self-Contain of Samples (incl from ReFills)
Make your songs self-contained by embedding samples and even ReFill sounds in your file. Reason 5’s self-contained song format makes collaborating with your friends a breeze. Even breezier than before actually.

Record Notes on Multiple Tracks
Reason 5 and Record 1.5 lets you use multiple MIDI keyboards, pads, and controllers for playing and recording your instruments. Lock a 16-pad controller to a Kong, and use a keyboard to play your synths. Or use two keyboards on stage for controlling different Reason instruments.

Scale Clips by Resizing
By pressing the alt or option key, Record 1.5 lets you timestretch individual clips. Now you can stretch loops to match your song’s tempo, or expand samples to eight times the length for completely new sounds.

Mute Tool
The new Mute tool lets you click to mute and unmute clips. Use it to mute sections, or create variations in your Blocks.

Set and move loop functions
Select a clip and press L to immediately set the loop points to the selection. Use the new Remote parameters for real-time control of the loop points from your MIDI controller.

Tap Tempo
New in the transport panel is the Tap Tempo button.

Improved key commands for laptop use
Reason 5 and Record 1.5 works even better on your laptop – or any keyboard missing a numeric pad. The new key commands lets you control play, loop, record and more from your keyboard.

Hierarchical menus in Combinator programmer
A sound designer favorite, the Combinator’s programmer window is now even easier to use with hierarchical menus for fast patching.

Additional CV inputs on Combinator
The Combinator in Reason 5 is expanded with new CV inputs on the back. The four new CV inputs can be used to control any parameter on the contained devices, providing even more options and possibilities for sound designers.

Updated Help system (incl Help on Mac)
Reason 5 and Record 1.5 comes with a new and better built-in help system, on both Mac and Windows.

Normalize and reverse audio clips
In Record 1.5 you can normalize and reverse your recorded audio clips.

Bounce clip to sample
When using Reason & Record, you can now bounce audio recordings to samples, so you can use them in Reason devices such as Kong, Redrum, NN-XT and NN-19.

Reason 5 updates
In Reason 5 there are tons of changes to bring Reason up to speed with Record. These changes include advanced multi core support, improved cable management in the rack, faster sample loading, on-screen piano keyboard, sequencer usability improvements and much much more.

End Credit Theme Music Composition on Reason 4

Composed & Arranged by : Swamay aka Kitcha

Instruments used : Bass, Pads, Strings, Brass

Program used : Reason 4

When it comes to Theme Music, I’m a huge huge fan of John Williams and Hans zimmer. I don’t know how many times I would have heard the theme music of Jurassic Park, ET, Gladiator, Schindlers list, Star wars, The Lion King, Sherlock Holmes etc., I think they have also inspired directors like Spielberg, James cameroon to conceive visuals for Theme music in most of their movies. Truly, their music has always been Classical, Royal and Theatrical.

So here is just a small tune that came to my mind and I tried to arrange it in a way that it would sound like a theme and theatrical . Think like this theme music comes during the end credits of a movie, where a huge ship is shown sailing in a big ocean from a top wide angle shot . haha Well, the imagination is up to you but I only hope you would like it .

Please do pass on your comments folks. Thanks.

When iPod struck the market, it was a reveleation. As every home carried a TV and a computer, it was the same with iPod. It was such a blessing and disguise to the music lovers all over the world. Now with iPhones, apple has gone a step ahead and it has grown up to almost close enough to be called a mini pc. Now you can download apps of every single category you can think, buy music from iTunes and what not. But still, there was not really an app that satisfied the creators of Music. Well, not any more. There are already a few apps that are available through the app store that allows you to create music but the one i’m going to discuss here is a monster of an app. Yes, Beatmaker from Intua is a complete Music creation software that allows you to sample, record, mix, loop and what not. It is as good as a modern day desktop DAW application in the market. Of course with such a small device capable of doing this is simply majical. Music makers will love to take advantage of this mind blowing iPhone app for sure. Not to forget, all of this is done from
an affordable price of $19.99.

Now, check out all the features available from Intua’s BeatMaker.

BeatMaker stands out from the rest of the music creation applications. It is not for an amateur or a fun to play around with kind of product. It is actually a portable Music Production Center (MPC) right on your iPhone, with drum kits, sequencer and sampler features that you would find only in a desktop based DAW or MPC platform.

Click here to check out the complete User Manual of BeatMaker from Intua.

When you install BeatMaker app, it already provides you with several high quality sample sound banks from featured artists to get you started. Well, you can also create your own sample kits/banks and transfer them onto iPhone using their free BeatPack desktop application, which is available for both Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista. All of these sample banks can be loaded directly into the application, and can be played back on a 16-pad screen layout. Plus it also allows up to five pads to be triggered simultaneously. That is simply awesome. I’ve tried that myself on my iPhone. It’s terrific and feels like playing on a physical drum machine .

Customization is also possible in the pad view. It allows you to adjust the pitch, volume, output channel and even start and stop points for every sample. A graphical waveform is also provided to assist with adjusting the start and stop points. Samples can also be chopped, scaled, muted or set to be played back in reverse. New samples can also be loaded from individual WAV/AIFF files either from the included BeatMaker kits or transferred from your computer using the free BeatPack companion application. MIND BLOWING !!! I think there is no better way to make music. You can now compose, arrange and make music from the train. Waalah !! What a technology surge this is.

From the pad screen, you can either simply play your sound bank live in real time, or record a pattern directly from the pad screen by selecting the record option and tapping on the iPhone screen to play back samples from each pad. BeatMaker also provides a song sequencer screen to lay out and place your triggering patterns along a graphical timeline, and a step sequencer to graphically adjust and the triggers for each sample track. It supports 16 samples per pattern, and an unlimited number of patterns within the song sequencer.

Within the step sequencer, screens are also provided for adjusting the velocity (or volume) of each pattern on a per-step basis, as well as a groove editor to allow more “humanization” of the patterns by setting earlier or delayed pattern triggers for each step.

BeatMaker also provides the ability to assign each pad to effects channel. Channels include a main (“dry”) channel which has no effects, and two independent FX channels that both include Bit-Crusher, 3-Band EQ and Synchronized Delay effects.

Your sequences and sound bank settings can be saved and retrieved, or even transferred to your desktop computer using the free companion BeatPack app from Intua. once you are done laying out the tracks, you can export them to either WAV format for playback or export to MIDI for further processing in a desktop music production application such as Pro Tools, Cubase or Logic Express/Pro etc.,

BeatMaker takes up about close to 180MB on your iPhone even before you start creating new stuff like samples and tracks on it. Of course it is a very large application but its good that it is large. Only a bigger product will carry the best features and this being a Music production software, it is totally worth to give your iPhone space for it.

With all that is said above, BeatMaker is easily the most sophisticated iPhone music application, offering a full-featured electronic music creation platform. I know it costs $20 but i’m sure that every single penny is worth, considering all its features in a tiny sized device such as an iPhone or iPad.

Enjoy your Music from Beatmaker and please do share your Music if you’ve made from it .

Downlaod Reason 4 for free. Reason 4 from Propellerhead Software can best be described as an infinitely expandable studio – a native-based set of virtual devices that include synthesizers, sampler, drum machine, effects and a pattern sequencer. In short, the software acts as an expandable, all-in-one music production environment.

Each unit in the virtual rack is edited from its own front panel and multiple instances of all the modules can be opened, limited only by the host computer’s processing capacity. Choosing an item from the “Create” menu places the module in the rack, logically patched into the signal chain. A single key-press will turn Reason’s rack around to reveal patch points for every port on every module, allowing the user to make custom patch configurations.

New in version 4 is “thor”, a multi-synthesis synthesizer with six oscillator types, four different filters, a step sequencer and a modulation matrix. RPG-8 is a monophonic arpeggiator with multiple play modes, an insert function and a pattern section. The addition of a 32-channel groove mixer allows users to affect the feel and timing of loops, which are output to the sequencer, which itself has been enhanced with multiple track lanes, vector automation, dedicated device tracks, clips, count-in and more.

The software can function either stand-alone, or as a ReWire application. Full Integration with other manufacturer’s audio software via ReWire allows audio from Reason to be output to an external software workstation, for further processing and/or mixing with other audio tracks. When the overall project is ready to be saved, the whole studio setup is stored along with the music, including the associated sounds, samples, loops and drum kits.
Key Features:
* Virtual studio complete with virtual synthesizers, samplers, drum machine, pattern sequencers and effects
* Native performance, no special hardware needed
* Virtual mixer and patching system for any number of modules with endless routings possible
* Creates as many of each device as the host computer can handle
* Version 4 adds “thor”, a multi-synthesis synthesizer, the RPG-8 monophonic arpeggiator and a 32-channel groove mixer
* Full automation of all fader and control movements – infinite patching and routing possibilities
* Smooth, seamless, out-of-the-box communication with external MIDI controllers and hardware control surfaces
* The preset mappings link the controller’s knobs, buttons and faders to the parameters within Reason’s devices, providing instant, tactile control over any function in any Reason unit
* Browser allows for free-text searching of the entire library, “preview-playing” of sounds directly from the browser and increases the efficiency of patch management. The task of finding and loading sounds and patches is smooth and intuitive.
* Full synchronization with other MIDI equipment
* Audio export via ReWire to other audio software that supports the ReWire protocol
* Customizable editors for all devices
* Devices can be folded away to save screen space
